Mamata Banerjee injury Nandigram: EC suspends Mamata’s chief of security

The Election Commission on Sunday denied that there was a pre-planned attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, indicating that she suffered injuries due to a lapse in security. According to the ANI, the Commission after reviewing the report of two Special Election Observers and the State Government concluded that the injuries suffered by Trinamool Congress leader Banerjee are the result of the lapse of personnel who are responsible for their safety. Based on the reports, the Election Commission has issued several instructions.

After this, the Election Commission has removed Vivek Sahay from the post of Director of Safety and Place. The commission said, “Cases should be decided against them within a week. They have completely failed to fulfill the primary responsibility of protecting the person receiving Z plus security.”

During the visit of Nandigram in the state a few weeks before the election, Mamata Banerjee was injured. On Wednesday, after filling the election form from Nandigram, she was standing on the footboard of the car to greet the people in the market. Then the crowd pushed her, which hurt her leg. She was then brought to Kolkata from Nandigram, admitted to the SSKM Hospital there.

According to the commission, despite being a star campaigner, Banerjee was not using a bullet proof or armored vehicle and it was an omission of those responsible for her safety. Apart from this, sources said, the approval of the Election Officer of the area where the incident took place was not taken. As a result, election officials were unable to deploy videographers or flying squads. Banerjee fell on Wednesday during the election campaign in Nandigram and sustained injuries to her left leg and back. It is alleged that unknown people pushed her.
