The case of the arrest of two ministers of the Mamata Banerjee government and MLA Madan Mitra has intensified the turbulence in Bengal’s politics. Minister Mamata Banerjee has reached the CBI office in support of the arrested ministers Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee and MLA Madan Mitra in the Narada scam.
On receiving the news of the arrest of the ministers and the MLA on Monday morning, Mamta Banerjee came into action and reached the CBI office directly. TMC has accused the CBI of taking revenge action in the case.
Advocate Anindo Raut said that Mamta Banerjee reached the CBI office and opposed the arrest of the ministers. He said, ‘I heard that Mamata Banerjee told the CBI officials that no legislator or minister of the state could be arrested without the permission of the speaker of the assembly and the government. If you have arrested my ministers, then arrest me too. ‘
It is clear from Mamata Banerjee’s statement that she is not going to back down easily on this issue. In the coming days, the Narada scam could be the reason for the confrontation between the Center and the state government.
The Narada news sting video surfaced 15 days before the 2016 assembly elections in West Bengal can now once again become a sore throat for the Mamata Banerjee government and the Trinamool Congress.
The CBI raided the house of Bengal cabinet minister Firhad Hakim, cabinet minister Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra and former BJP leader Sowan Chatterjee, accused in the Narada scam. After this, the agency took these four leaders for questioning by the CBI.
This sting video, on one hand, presented ammunition to Mamata Banerjee and her government to the opposition.
At the same time, Mamata Banerjee and her party termed this political conspiracy to save her image.
But now after the High Court’s verdict of CBI investigation and then the Supreme Court’s verdict on that decision, the tone of the government and Trinamool Congress has softened.
The Kolkata High Court last Friday ordered the investigation of the case to be handed over to the CBI. The court then directed him to submit a preliminary inquiry report within 72 hours and file an FIR if necessary, but the Supreme Court has extended this deadline to 30 days.
