National Herald case: ED raids National Herald HQ, days after questioning Sonia and Rahul Gandhi

National Herald case: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now started its operations at the official premises of the National Herald. ED after questioning Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, has now raided the congress-owned National Herald News paper in Delhi.

ED raids are underway on the 4th floor of the Herald House. The publication office of the National Herald is located here. ED is raiding multiple areas within Delhi related to the National Herald Money laundering case.

As per the sources, the investigating agency is raiding around 12 spots including the main office of the National Herald Newspaper in Delhi and it is suspected that the ED may raid some of the areas in Kolkata.

Earlier, ED questioned Rahul and Sonia Gandhi over the alleged National Herald money laundering case. President of the INC, Sonia Gandhi, was last questioned on July 27 for more than three hours for the third time.

Whereas, Rahul Gandhi was questioned in June for 50 hours over five days.
Other Congress leaders such as Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal have also been questioned by the investigating agency.

Reasons behind ED’s probing

The investigation is related to the financial irregularities in the Congress promoted young Indian private limited, owner of the National Herald Newspaper. Questioning over the money laundering case started when the ED registered a case last ear under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

All of this happened after A trial court took notice of an income tax department investigation against Young Indian founded on a private complaint by BJP MP Subramanian Swamy in 2013.
