Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has suffered a major setback. He has failed to prove a majority in the House. Now he may have to resign from the post of Prime Minister. This is a time of great reshuffle in Nepal’s politics.
Only 93 votes were cast in favor of Oli in a vote of confidence in Nepal’s Parliament House of Representatives, while 124 MPs voted in the opposition. Oli’s 28 MPs from his party, Nepal Communist Party UML, were absent in the House in violation of the whip.
Even before the floor test, Oli suffered a major setback when a section of his party’s MPs decided not to attend the special session of Parliament on Monday. A party leader Bhim Rawal had said that more than 20 MLAs of the party’s disgruntled faction decided to boycott the session .
