Nitish Kumar: Following his “obscene” comments on women’s roles in population control during his Tuesday speech in the state assembly, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has become involved in controversy. Speaking to the MLAs, among whom were a few female lawmakers, Nitish Kumar outlined the role that women’s education plays in population control. Nitish Kumar’s remarks regarding women have infuriated the National Commission for Women (NCW). According to NCW Chief Rekha Sharma, Nitish Kumar needs to apologise right away.
NCW Chief Rekha Sharma Demands Apology from Nitish Kumar
Rekha Sharma wrote on social site X that “On behalf of every woman in this country, as the Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, I demand an immediate and unequivocal apology from the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar. His crass remarks in the Vidhan Sabha are an affront to the dignity and respect that every woman deserves. Such derogatory and cheap language used during his speech is a dark stain on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the horror the state must be enduring under his leadership. We stand firm against such behavior and call for accountability.”
BJP Slams Nitish Kumar for ‘Derogatory’ Remarks on Women
Soon after Nitish Kumar’s words in the Legislative Assembly were captured on camera, the BJP vehemently attacked him on social media for making “derogatory” remarks against women. Presenting the results of his government’s most recent caste census was Nitish Kumar. CM Nitish Kumar’s remarks against women have also been criticised on social media as being incorrect.
RK Singh Expresses Shame over Nitish Kumar’s Remarks
On this RK Singh said, “We feel ashamed that he’s our state’s CM…I think each person in Bihar must be ashamed that their CM is using such obscene language in the Assembly…It’s a third-grade statement…Nitish Kumar has lost his mind.” After backlash Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, apologised on Wednesday after sparking controversy with his absurd remarks—which he made in the state assembly, detailing the role that women’s education plays in population control—almost in gory detail. The Opposition referred to the Chief Minister’s remarks regarding women’s education in the state legislature yesterday as “vulgar” and “derogatory”.
Nitish Kumar Retracts Controversial Remarks in Formal Apology
Nitish Kumar said, “Mai apne shabd wapas leta hu, humane yun hi ye bate kehdi thi… Mere bayan ka galat matlab nikala gaya… Maine to mahilao ki shiksha ki bat ki thi.. Agar mere banyan se koi aahat hua hai to maafi maangta hu (I take back my words. My comments have been misconstituted. I just talked about women’s education. I apologise if my statements have hurt anybody.” In her speech, the Chief Minister emphasised the significance of educating girls in order to curb population increase, noting that Bihar’s fertility rate has decreased from 4.2 to 2.9%.
