Congress candidate from Siddhpur, Gujarat, Chandan Thakor had recently said that only Muslims can save the Congress. Since then, the BJP has been attacking the Congress accusing it of appeasement. Accusing the Congress of Muslim appeasement, BJP’s national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla wrote on Twitter, ‘Openly Muslim appeasement! This is no coincidence! Earlier Hindu faith was abused by many Congress leaders and now the race to become appeasement brother because they are afraid of Gopal Italia and Rajendra Pal! Congress = I want communalism #ChunaviHindu.”
He said that such a statement had already come from former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh when he had said that Muslims have the first right on resources. In another tweet, he said, “Congress Siddhpur candidate Chandanji Thakor is saying,”Only Muslims can save Congress!! The BJP government has stopped your triple talaq and Haj subsidy.
Gujarat assembly elections starting from 1st December
All the parties have stepped up their campaigning for the Gujarat assembly elections starting from 1st December. Gujarat’s Congress candidate from Siddhpur, Chandan Thakor said during a rally on Saturday, “These people have pushed the whole country into the pit.” And if there is anyone who can save the country then it is the Muslim community. And if anyone can save the Congress party, it is the Muslim community.”
Thakor further said, “I will share only one example of this. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi took to the streets on the issue of NRC. No other party stood up for the Muslims. This is the only party which is protecting you in the whole country.”
‘We will protect you’
Raising several issues and targeting the ruling BJP, he said, “This BJP tried to trouble you from many aspects. On the issue of triple talaq, he went to the Supreme Court and brought the law. Congress gave you subsidy to go on Haj. But due to its wrong policies, BJP destroyed it too. They ended the subsidy you get for your small businesses. In future, so that they don’t resort to their muscle power politics again, the circumstances are in front of you… We will protect you.’
