Over 2.6 lakh voters opted for NOTA in Karnataka election

The results of the Karnataka assembly elections are almost out, only the official announcement is yet to be made. The Congress party has got full mandate in the elections. In the elections for 224 assembly seats, the Congress party has won 136 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party has become the second largest party with 65 seats.

At the same time, according to the Election Commission, many parties got less votes than NOTA. According to the Election Commission, a total of 0.69 per cent voters preferred the NOTA option in Karnataka.

In fact, about 2.6 lakh voters exercised the option of ‘NOTA’ that is ‘none of the above’ in the assembly elections held on May 10 in Karnataka. This information was received from the data available on the website of the Election Commission till 3.30 pm. According to this, out of about 3.84 crore voters who participated in the polling held on May 10, 2,59,278 (0.7 per cent) have pressed the ‘NOTA’ button. The ‘NOTA’ option on the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) was introduced in 2013.

In the Karnataka elections, many such parties have emerged which got less votes than NOTA. Those who got less votes than NOTA are JD(U), NCP, SP, AAP, AIMIM, BSP, CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML). According to the data available on the website of the Election Commission, many parties got even less votes than this. NCP got just 0.31%, SP 0.02%, Aam Aadmi Party 0.58%, AIMIM 0.02%, BSP 0.30%, CPI 0.02% and CPI(M) 0.06%.
