Sonia Gandhi, Congress interim President slammed CBSE. Sonia seems upset with CBSE because of, ‘shockingly regressive’ passage regarding women in the CBSE’s English exam question paper. Sonia Gandhi during the Zero Hour in Lok Sabha also asked an apology from CBSE.
The English question paper of Class 10 triggered congress and many Twitter users on Saturday for allegedly promoting “gender stereotyping” and supporting “regressive notions”.
Sonia Gandhi said “The passage contains atrocious statements, such as ‘women gaining independence is the main reason for a wide variety of social and family problems’. The entire passage is riddled with such condemnable ideas and the questions that follow are equally nonsensical”.
“I add my voice to the concerns of students, parents, teachers, and I raise strong objections to such blatant misogynist material finding its way into an important examination conducted by CBSE. It reflects extremely poorly on the standards of education and testing and it goes against all norms and principles of a progressive and empowered society,” she further adds.
Sonia Gandhi also asked an apology from CBSE, saying: “I urge the ministry of education and CBSE to immediately withdraw this question, issue an apology, and conduct a fair review into this lapse and ensure this is never repeated.”
“I also urge that ministry of education must consider a review on gender sensitivity standards of curriculum and testing,” Sonia added.
