Lok Sabha secretariats stated on Saturday that a joint session of both Houses of Parliament will be held from September 18 to 22 without Question Period or private member’s business. The secretariats announced that the session will consist of five sittings and that members will be given separate notices regarding the tentative timetable.
“Members are informed that the Thirteenth Session of the Seventeenth Lok Sabha will commence on Monday, the 18th September, 2023,” the Lok Sabha Secretariat said in a bulletin on Saturday.
“Members are informed that the Two Hundred and Sixty First Session of the Rajya Sabha will commence on Monday, the 18th September, 2023,” the Rajya Sabha secretariat said.
Pralhad Joshi, the minister for parliamentary affairs, had stated on Thursday that there will be a “special session” of Parliament beginning on September 18 for five days. However, he did not reveal the agenda, which led to rumours.
“Amid Amrit Kaal, looking forward to having fruitful discussions and debate in Parliament,” Joshi said on X.
Budget, Monsoon, and Winter sessions of parliament are typically convened three times a year.
The “special session” may see a shift of parliamentary duties to the new Parliament building, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened on May 28.
A day later, it was revealed that the government had formed a high-level committee to assess and recommend simultaneous elections, fueling rumours that the extraordinary session would be the final one for the present Lok Sabha.
The fact that plans are being prepared for a group shot of MPs has fanned the flames, despite some claims that it may be related to a potential move to the new parliament building.
