Pashupati Kumar Paras, the head of the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party, clarified on Saturday that “this is not the case” in response to speculation that his party and that of his nephew Chirag Paswan may reconcile. His comments came after Paswan was spotted patting Ram Vilas’ feet at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) conference on July 18, sparking rumours that his party might join forces with Ram Vilas’ Lok Janshakti Party.

Pashupati Kumar Paras Denies Rejoining Hands with Chirag Paswan
“During the NDA meeting, Chirag Paswan met me and touched my feet after which I gave him my blessings. After this, some reports claimed that we have joined hands again. However, I would like to clarify that this is not the case,” PTI quoted Paras as saying. He also declared that he would run for the Lok Sabha in Bihar’s Hajipur district. “I will contest from Hajipur itself, this is my right. I am an MP there, I am a cabinet minister in the Government of India and an old and trusted ally of the NDA,” ANI quoted Paras as saying. This follows Paswan’s assertion that he would run for office from the same location.
A Political Journey of Alliances and Reshuffling
After meeting with BJP national president JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier this week, Chirag Paswan re-joined the NDA. “Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan has decided to join NDA. I welcome him to the NDA family,” BJP chief JP Nadda tweeted. In the course of negotiations with the BJP on his party’s representation in the Lok Sabha for the general elections in 2024, Chirag Paswan met Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday. It should be mentioned that Chirag Paswan had resigned from the NDA in Bihar in 2020 to take on the Janata Dal (United), the party of chief minister Nitish Kumar at the time, which was allied with the BJP. Following the passing of its leader Ram Vilas Paswan, the LJP split. Pashupati Kumar Paras, Chirag Paswan’s uncle, left the party and joined Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet as a Union Minister.
