Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday spoke to Britain’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss over the phone and condoled the death of Queen Elizabeth II. A government press release said that on behalf of the people of India, Prime Minister Modi expressed his deepest condolences to the royal family and the people of Britain on the tragic demise of Queen Elizabeth II.
PM Modi also congratulated Liz Truss on taking over as the Prime Minister of UK. He also appreciated Liz Truss’s contribution to India-UK bilateral relations in her previous roles as Trade Secretary and Foreign Secretary. The two leaders talked about further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UK. The two leaders discussed progress in the implementation of Roadmap 2030, FTA talks, defense and security cooperation and various issues of bilateral interest between the two countries.
Significantly, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth-II died on Thursday at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. Queen Elizabeth-II breathed her last at the age of 96. Her last rites will be performed on 19 September. During this, national mourning will continue in Britain. After the death of Queen Elizabeth, her eldest son Charles III has been declared the new King of Britain today.
