Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going on a five-day foreign visit from Friday. He will be in Rome from 29 to 31 October. During this he will participate in the G-20 summit held in Italy. He is going to Rome on the invitation of the Prime Minister of Italy. On November 1, PM will present India’s side at the COP-26 meeting in Glasgow, UK.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla told on Thursday that this is the eighth G-20 meeting, in which the PM will attend. Last year, the summit meeting of the organization went virtual due to the Corona epidemic. It was hosted by Saudi Arabia. Earlier in June 2019, PM Modi personally participated in the G-20 meeting held in Osaka, Japan. The theme of this year’s meeting, to be hosted by Italy, is ‘People, Earth and Prosperity. The theme is based on the UN’s Sustainable Development Agenda 2030.
The focus of the Italy meeting is recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, global health, good governance, climate change, sustainable development and food security. Shringla said that India fully supports the priority areas chosen by Italy. We are with Italy on each of these issues and on that basis the discussions will take place in the meeting.

The Foreign Secretary said that the G20 Summit is an important forum for discussions. In this, new policy issues, which have an impact on the lives of citizens, are considered. These issues are global financial stability, sustainable finance, health, food security. Prime Minister Modi can present India’s stand on global challenges in Rome meeting. They can also talk about solidarity against climate change and the corona pandemic, while advocating for a holistic global view on the situation in Afghanistan.
Shringla said that we are in favor of providing humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. If the current circumstances continue, we are ready for it. He was asked whether India would send food grains to Afghanistan? The Foreign Secretary said that there is a consensus among the G-20 countries about recovering from the epidemic and standing again. The main focus in this is employment generation and skill development. This will be an important part of the overall discussion.
PM Modi will attend the 26th Conference on Climate Change (COP-26) meeting in Glasgow, UK on November 1. Shringla said that in COP-26, India will emphasize on implementing the guidelines of the Paris Agreement, mobilizing climate finance, adopting climate-protecting technology and limiting global warming.
