Punjab News: AAP Delegation Urges Punjab Election Commission to Ensure Fair Panchayat Elections

The delegation highlighted the ongoing issue of bidding for Sarpanch posts, despite the implementation of the election code of conduct.

Punjab News: A delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, has met with the Punjab Election Commission to raise concerns about unethical practices in the upcoming Panchayat elections scheduled for October 15, 2024. The delegation highlighted the ongoing issue of bidding for Sarpanch posts, despite the implementation of the election code of conduct.

A Call for Action Against Election Misconduct

During the meeting, AAP representatives expressed concern over reports of auctions being held for Sarpanch positions, calling it a violation of democratic principles. They urged the Election Commission to take swift and decisive action to investigate these unethical activities and ensure that the elections are conducted fairly and transparently.

The party requested the Commission to:

  1. Prevent and investigate the auctions for Sarpanch posts.
  2. Enforce strict adherence to election guidelines and the Model Code of Conduct.
  3. Deploy adequate security forces to prevent booth capturing or voter intimidation.
  4. Conduct voter awareness campaigns to promote informed voting decisions.

Ensuring Democratic Integrity

AAP emphasized that the integrity of the democratic process must be preserved, and voters should be able to cast their votes freely, without any fear or external influence. The party expressed confidence in the Election Commission’s impartiality and commitment to ensuring a fair election process.

By addressing these concerns, AAP hopes to uphold democratic values and maintain trust in the electoral system in Punjab.
