In preparation for the upcoming municipal body elections, Punjab AAP President Aman Arora convened a meeting with party leaders in Jalandhar on Saturday.
Focus on Candidate Selection
Arora announced that the party would begin accepting applications for election candidates from Sunday. He emphasized that party workers would be prioritized for ticket allocation, highlighting AAP's commitment to its cadre. “We have a robust, dedicated cadre of active workers across the state, and they will be considered first,” he stated. However, individuals from other parties with a clean image may also be considered.
Municipal Elections Timeline
The official notification mentions elections for five municipal corporations—Amritsar, Phagwara, Patiala, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana—along with 42 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. These are expected to be conducted by the end of December, although specific dates are yet to be announced.
Sharp Retort to Jakhar’s MSP Remarks
Responding to Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar’s comments on MSP irregularities, Arora called the remarks “absurd” and urged Jakhar to present evidence if available. Arora also clarified that the Punjab government has no direct role in MSP payments and assured immediate action if irregularities were proven.
