Key Details of the Elections

The elections will cover:

  • 44 municipal councils/nagar panchayats.
  • Byelections for 43 wards of municipal councils and six wards of municipal corporations.

In total, 3,717 polling booths will be set up for the elections.

Massive Deployment of Security Forces

To maintain law and order, 20,486 personnel from the Punjab Police and home guards will be deployed across polling stations. In addition, 500 patrolling parties and 283 striking reserves will be on standby to address any emergencies.

Comprehensive Security Arrangements

Chaudhuri outlined several measures to ensure safety and prevent illegal activities:

  • 74 second-line defence nakas (checkpoints).
  • 87 interstate nakas.
  • 257 inter-district/intra-district nakas.

These checkpoints will focus on curbing the flow of illicit liquor, cash, drugs, and the movement of anti-social elements.
