Four Punjab cabinet ministers and several Congress MLAs on Tuesday raised a revolt against Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, saying they do not have faith in Singh as he has not fulfilled the promises made before the 2017 assembly polls. . Four ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi and around 24 MLAs met at Bajwa’s residence here on Tuesday.
Bajwa said he would seek time to meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and apprise her of the political situation in the state. He said that strong steps need to be taken and if the Chief Minister needs to be changed, it should be done. After the meeting, Channi told the media that several MLAs and ministers of the party gathered here on Tuesday and expressed concern over the promises which have not been fulfilled.

These promises include delaying justice in 2015 in cases of desecration of religious texts, arresting bigwigs involved in drug rackets and canceling power purchase agreements. He said Bajwa, Sarkaria, Randhawa and Punjab Congress General Secretary Pargat Singh would meet the party high command. These five are considered opponents of Amarinder Singh. The meeting came amid strong criticism from two advisors of Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu for making controversial remarks on sensitive issues like Kashmir and Pakistan. However, Sidhu was not present in the meeting.
Channi said that many MLAs are worried about the promises made by the Congress ahead of the 2017 assembly elections which have not been fulfilled yet. Channi said, “Our issues are not getting resolved. We no longer believe that these issues will be resolved. He said nothing happened after the SIT questioned former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in the Kotkapura police firing incident.
He claimed that a perception has been created in Punjab that Amarinder Singh and Shiromani Akali Dal are in collusion with each other and it has hurt the reputation of the Congress. On the question of possible cabinet reshuffle, Randhawa said that he is not greedy for any post and only wants to fulfill the promises made to the people before the elections.
