BJP: The BJP and the Congress, Madhya Pradesh’s two main political opponents, are engaged in a poster war to disparage one another as elections approach later this year. The Congress has put up Shivraj Singh Chouhan posters all over the capital city of Bhopal, accusing him of getting things done in exchange for cash. In Bhopal’s Mata Mandir, Platinum Plaza, and New Market neighbourhoods, posters resembling the Congress’ ‘PayCM’ ones in Karnataka were seen.
‘Wanted Corruption Nath’ Posters Emerge Amidst Political Blame Game
The signs included Chavan’s visage and a QR code that stated, “50% laao, PhonePe kaam karao (pay 50% commission to get your work done)”.
The BJP ousted the Congress administration mid-term in 2020 with a huge coup led by Jyotiraditya Scindia. The Congress is waging a struggle to retake the state from the BJP and has accused the state government of charging a 50% commission to complete tasks. Former Chief Minister and seasoned Congressman Kamal Nath was criticised for the posters and blamed the BJP for starting it. Who initiated it? A play on Kamal Nath’s name, “Wanted Corruption Nath” posters had already been spotted in Bhopal. The posters included a QR code with the slogan “Scam se bachne ke liye scan kare (scan to prevent scams)” that connected Kamal Nath to a number of suspected scams in the state.

Kamal Nath Acknowledges Party’s Involvement, BJP Denies Role
According to party spokesman Pankaj Chaturvedi, “Kamal Nath accepted that the Congress is playing with posters.” the BJP denied putting up the “Corruption Nath” posters. The BJP, on the other hand, rejects this sort of unethical politics. We engage in development politics. The general public will respond to the rest. Vishnu Dutt Sharma, the leader of the Madhya Pradesh BJP, said that his organisation had nothing to do with the Kamal Nath posters and that the Congress’ “internal fight” was the cause of them. The recently ended Karnataka elections and the Madhya Pradesh poster war are related. The Congress sponsored a ‘PayCM’ billboard campaign against the outgoing chief minister, Basavaraj Bommai, ahead of the election in the southern state. There was a QR code that led to the “40% sarkara” website, which the Congress had set up for people to report the BJP’s corruption in the state.
PhonePe has issued clarification in this regard. This is what their spokesperson had to say: “We would like to clarify that PhonePe is not associated with the news circulating in some of the media on ‘50% commission government’ in Madhya Pradesh. The company has no political affiliations with any of the parties or candidates.”
