Raghuram Rajan: Rahul Gandhi is a smart, young and curious man; pappu image’ for him unfortunate

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan, has apprised that image of ‘pappu’ attributed to Rahul Gandhi is very unfortunate, and stated that Wayanad MP is a smart, young and curious man. He continued by saying that he joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra because he supports the principles that the yatra promotes.

Raghuram Rajan also stated that he has no plans to join any political party or enter electoral politics. He continued by saying that he is impartial and that his criticism of Narendra Modi-led governments should not be interpreted in terms of ideology. He had also criticised the UPA government’s prior economic policies, which were led by Manmohan Singh.

He further stated Rahul Gandhi knows his priorities, the fundamental risks, and how to assess them:

The conversational snippets from when he spoke on the margins of the World Economic Forum are as follows:

“I think the image is unfortunate. I have spent close to a decade interacting with them on many fronts, he [Rahul Gandhi] is no way a ‘pappu’ (fool). He is a smart, young, curious man.”

He further stated:

“I think it is important to have a good sense of what the priorities are, the basic risks and the ability to evaluate them. I think he [Rahul Gandhi] is perfectly capable of doing that,”
