Rahul Gandhi: Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, sparked a debate in India with a lecture he gave at Cambridge University. Following Rahul Gandhi’s comments criticising the PM Modi-led government at the Center, BJP leaders attacked the Congress leaders for their remarks made while they were abroad. The Bharatiya Janata Party is also furious with Rahul Gandhi for his comment that was perceived as “praising” China.
Learning to Listen in the 21st Century
As a visiting fellow, Rahul Gandhi gave the lecture “Learning to Listen in the 21st Century” on Tuesday night at the Cambridge Judge Business School. His lecture included two main themes: the “Imperative for a Global Conversation” and the “Two Divergent Perspectives” of the US and China since World War II. The BJP criticised Rahul Gandhi for his “praise” of China after a video of his lecture was posted on social media. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP leader in Assam, declared: “First, foreign agents target us! Then an enemy nation targets us there! In reality, Rahul Gandhi’s speech in Cambridge was a brazen attempt to disparage our nation on foreign soil under the guise of criticising Prime Minister Modi.”

Himanta Biswa Sarma shared his respond on Twitter saying that, “Rahul praises China as an aspiring superpower, cites Belt and Road initiative (BRI) as an example. FACT: BRI is solely responsible for the debt crisis facing several countries today. Uncle Pitroda should have told him this.

The Assam CM said, “Rahul goes on to say China not believing in Intellectual Property Rights is a profound and powerful concept. Want to ask if P Chidambaram also thinks that discarding copyright laws and encouraging piracy will boost manufacturing?” He continue saying that, “Rahul even admits he is fascinated by China and Communist party members have shaped his thoughts. Such rich praise for the Chinese is understandable. Gandhi family is trying to pay off its debts for the donations they took from them!”

Amit Malviya shared Rahul Gandhi’s lecture clip
BJP leader Amit Malviya shared Rahul Gandhi’s lecture clip, He said, “Rahul Gandhi, in a brazen manner, justifies China’s authoritarianism, says Chinese value societal harmony – individual liberty is not central to their idea… They don’t want things to go out of control which is legitimate… as legitimate as individual liberty is for the US…” During his lecture at Cambridge University, Rahul Gandhi asserted that the fundamental tenets of Indian democracy were being attacked and that the institutional framework necessary for democracy was becoming constrained. Rahul Gandhi also discussed the Bharat Jodo Yatra he had gone on to engage the populace. He recalled a time when the yatra had entered Jammu and Kashmir and he had to deal with terrorists. Gandhi claimed that the security forces in Kashmir had requested that he avoid walking in the area because of the threat of terrorist attacks.
