Former Bihar CM and RJD supremo Lalu Yadav was sentenced jail on Monday to 5 years in the biggest case of fodder scam (illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from Doranda treasury). He will also have to pay a fine of 60 lakhs. Special CBI Judge SK Shashi in Ranchi announced the sentence through video conferencing. At present, Lalu is admitted in the paying ward of RIMS.
On February 15, the court had convicted 38 convicts, including Lalu, in this case. Advocate says that half of the sentence has been completed, so Lalu is expected to get bail from the High Court.
Here, before the announcement of the sentence, Lalu’s health worsened. His blood pressure and sugar level increased. In the morning, Lalu Yadav’s blood sugar reached 160, which in normal condition should be 110 in an empty stomach. On the other hand, his blood pressure has reached 150/70. The doctor told that before the hearing of the sentence, Lalu Yadav was in a lot of tension since the night. Due to this his BP and blood sugar became uncontrolled. Doctor Vidyapati, who was treating him, told that when he met Lalu in the morning, he looked very tense and when asked about his health, he replied very disappointedly.
Lalu did not even come out of his room for a walk this morning. A day before, Lalu Yadav’s blood sugar level was around 140/80 in the morning on an empty stomach. Whereas even after increasing the dose of insulin, his blood sugar increased on Monday. The doctor told that he is already suffering from chronic kidney disease and he already has problems with blood sugar and BP and after this stress everything has become uncontrollable, although the doctor has given medicine.
In this case of illegal withdrawal of Rs 139.35 crore from Doranda treasury, there is a story of fake animals being transported on scooters. This was believed to be the first case in the country when animals were transported on bikes and scooters. This whole case is between 1990-92. The CBI found in the investigation that the officers and leaders together prepared a unique formula of forgery. 400 bulls were allegedly hauled from Haryana and Delhi to Ranchi on scooters and motorcycles to produce good quality cows and buffaloes in Bihar. The Animal Husbandry Department purchased 50 bulls for Rs 2,35, 250, 163 bulls and 65 heifers for Rs 14, 04,825 during 1990-92.
