Leader of the RSS, Indresh Kumar, has openly criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its weak performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections, blaming the party’s performance on “arrogance.” Remarks made by Kumar during a gathering in Kanota, close to Jaipur, sparked debate about the internal politics of the country’s largest party.
Indresh Kumar’s Sharp Critique of BJP’s Election Performance
Indresh Kumar made a statement on the BJP’s performance during the event, saying, “Those who did bhakti of Lord Ram gradually became arrogant. That party was declared the biggest party but were stopped at 241 by Lord Ram due to arrogance.” The sharp remark appears to convey the RSS leader’s dissatisfaction with the BJP, which garnered 240 seats and was unable to form a majority in the Lok Sabha.
Kumar’s criticism draws attention to the BJP’s weak performance since 2014 and raises questions about the party’s strategy and direction as well as possible internal divisions.
Targeting the Opposition: “Anti-Ram” Allegations
In addition to his comments on the BJP, Kumar also targeted the opposition INDIA bloc, describing them as “anti-Ram.” Without directly naming the opposition alliance, he remarked, “And those who had no faith in Ram, they together were stopped at 234. God’s justice is true and enjoyable.” The INDIA bloc secured 234 seats in the election, and Kumar’s words imply a divine intervention against both the BJP and its adversaries due to their respective faults.
RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Emphasizes Humility
These remarks follow RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s previous speech in which he emphasised the need of humility in public service. Bhagwat articulated, “A true sevak maintains dignity. He follows the decorum while working. He does not have the arrogance to say ‘I did this work’. Only that person can be called a true sevak.”
Bhagwat’s emphasis on kindness and modesty aligns with Kumar’s criticism, pointing to a wider RSS push for the BJP to revert to its core principles of truth, nonviolence, and humility. The leaders of the RSS are aligning themselves, which suggests that they are trying to bring the party’s ideology back in line.
