The 43-year-old leader “will be the joint candidate for Rajya Sabha from Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal,” the SP said in a tweet on Thursday morning.
Earlier there were speculations that SP cheif Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple could file nomination for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections for one of the 11 Upper House seats falling vacant in Uttar Pradesh.
Former Congress leader Kapil Sibal and Javed Ali Khan are the other two candidates that the Samajwadi Party is backing.
Sources say Akhilesh Yadav called his RLD ally this morning to inform him that he was the party’s final choice for Rajya Sabha.

On the other hand, sources suggest that now Akhilesh Yadav’s wife and former MP from Kannauj, Dimple Yadav, may be fielded by SP for the Lok Sabha bypoll from Azamgarh parliamentary seat. The bypoll for Azamgarh and Rampur parliamentary seats will be held on June 23.
The Rampur parliamentary seat fell vacant after Mohammad Azam Khan resigned and decided to retain his assembly seat while the Azamgarh parliamentary seat had fell vacant after resignation of Akhilesh Yadav, post his election as an MLA from Karhal assembly seat.
