National status of Sharad Pawar’s party NCP is about to be snatched away. It is being said so. In fact, the Central Election Commission (EC) is going to review from today whether the Nationalist Congress Party’s status as a national party should be restored or taken away? Not only the Nationalist Congress Party, Mayawati’s BSP and the Communist Party of India (CPI) have also come to the point of losing their national party status.
There are some terms and conditions for any party to be called national. Any political party gets national status only when it gets more than 6 percent votes in at least four states in the Lok Sabha or assembly elections. Apart from this, it is also necessary to win at least 2 percent seats in the Lok Sabha, that is, 11 seats in 3 states.
Today after the answer of the NCP representative, the Election Commission will calculate
Today the representative of Sharad Pawar’s party NCP has been asked to answer in this regard before the Election Commission. After listening to the reply, the Election Commission will take a decision on whether the national status of the party should be restored or not.
If a political party gets national status, then what is the benefit?
If a political party gets the status of being a national party, then it has many advantages. The election symbol of such parties is valid in every state. Space is found for the party office in New Delhi. Free airtime facility is available from public broadcasters during elections, which makes it easy to convey their message to the public.
What happens if a political party loses its national status?
Under the 1968 election symbol order, if a party is stripped of its national status, then that party is no longer in a position to contest elections across the country with its common party symbol. He is forced to contest elections on different symbols in each state. That is, for example, the way NCP is contesting elections in Maharashtra and Meghalaya with clock symbol today and has emerged as a major party in Meghalaya a few days ago, it will not be easy. On losing the national status, NCP will have to contest elections in different states with different symbols and will be considered as a state party.
After the 2014 and 2019 elections, the national status of these parties was snatched away
National status of Sharad Pawar’s NCP, Mayawati’s BSP and CPI was about to be snatched only after the 2014 parliamentary elections. But the Election Commission, adopting a liberal approach, decided that the cycle of the next two elections should also be allowed to be completed once. After the 2019 general elections, once again the Election Commission was planning to review the national status of Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress along with these three parties. But then at that time the national status of these parties was restored in view of the upcoming assembly elections. But now the Election Commission has decided to review the status of these parties.
The Election Commission had amended the rules of 2016 to restore the national status of political parties. After this, it was decided that instead of every five years, it will be reviewed every ten years whether a political party deserves to be called a party with national status or not.
