Shashi Tharoor: Congress MP and presidential candidate Shashi Tharoor said on Thursday that he has been treated differently by party leaders than his opponent Mallikarjun Kharge. Notably, Shashi Tharoor and Mallikarjun Kharge are competing for the position of Congress President. “We are contesting elections,” Tharoor said at a press conference. He added, “There is no animosity in our party. Kharge Sahab is my senior leader, with whom I have collaborated closely. The election is about two colleagues deciding how to collaborate in order to strengthen the party.”
Tharoor expressed his displeasure over PCC chiefs
On his “uneven palying field” remark, Congress presidential candidate Tharoor said, “In several PCCs, leaders welcomed and met Kharge Sahab.” The same was not done for me. I went to PCCs, but the PCC chiefs were not present. I’m not complaining, but do you notice a difference in treatment?” He stated that his party members should vote for him only if they want a change in Congress.

Kharge stated that his name was not suggested by Sonia Gandhi
Earlier this week, Tharoor stated that he could serve as a reformer for the grand old party in order to revitalise its presence in the country. Regarding rumours that Kharge is an official candidate for party chief, Tharoor stated, “Some claim Kharge is an official candidate, while I am not. However, I would like to point out that the Gandhi family is unbaised, and no one is an official candidate, as we are campaigning to strengthen the Congress Party. It is not true that delegates are asked to vote for a specific candidate.” Meanwhile, Mallikarjun Kharge, a Congress veteran leader and the party’s presidential candidate, has stated that his name was not suggested by party supremo Sonia Gandhi and has dismissed speculations about receiving support from the party’s interim president.
