Manipur Violence: Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and Congress declared on Sunday that China is responsible for the violent incidents in the state and that “President’s rule should be imposed in the state” in response to growing concerns about the situation in Manipur. Sanjay Raut, the head of the Shiv Sena (UBT), inquired about the Central government’s actions against China while speaking to the news agency ANI. He suggested imposing president’s rule in the state of Manipur and calling for the resignation of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Calls for Manipur CM’s Resignation and Imposition of President’s Rule
“China is involved in Manipur violence. What action did you (Central govt) take against China? He (Manipur CM) should resign and president’s rule should be imposed there,” Raut said. In a same vein, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari asserted that the Manipur-found guns were “made in China.” Rahul Gandhi went there and made a call for peace, he claimed. The president’s rule should be implemented right away and CM should be ousted.

N Biren Singh, the chief minister of Manipur, gave an explanation on Saturday as to why he initially considered leaving office in the face of the ongoing unrest in the state. Following the resignation of Singh, intense drama broke out outside the CM’s residence and Raj Bhavan. The chief minister was barred from entering Raj Bhavan by his backers.
Manipur CM Contemplates Resignation Amidst Erosion of Trust and Political Turmoil
Manipur CM N Biren Singh told ANI that, “I saw effigies of PM Modi and HM Amit Shah being burnt at a few places in the state, saw attempts of attack on BJP office. What the Centre did for Manipur and we did for Manipur in 5-6 years, I doubted if we have lost the trust of people. Thinking about this made me feel bad…Abusive language was used by a small group against me a few days back at a market. It didn’t feel good…So, I decided this.” In addition to pleading with the chief minister not to resign, his supporters also tore up his letter of resignation in front of everyone. Singh stated in a later tweet that he decided against quitting “at this critical juncture.” “A leader can’t be a leader without public confidence. I feel good that after I stepped out (of the CM house), there was a huge crowd on the streets. They cried and showed me their trust in me. This proved my thoughts (of doubts) wrong) because the people still stood in my support. They told me not to resign. If they tell me to resign, I will; if they tell me not to, I won’t”, he said.
