Sikkim Arunachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2024 Results: The Arunachal Pradesh BJP government, headed by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, is expected to hold onto office as the party has surpassed the majority threshold and is leading in 30 seats, according to early trends. Unopposed, the BJP has already taken ten seats in Arunachal Pradesh. Both Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have already secured their seats.
BJP Leads in Key Constituencies
The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 30 seats in Arunachal Pradesh, including Lumla, Kalaktang, Koloriang, Nacho, Likabali, Basar, Along (West), Along (East), and other seats, according to data from the Election Commission. The Arunachal Assembly has a majority vote of 31. Eight seats are held by the National People’s Party (NPEP), two by the People’s Party of Arunachal Pradesh (PPA), three by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), one by the Congress, and two by Independents.
On April 19, voting for Arunachal Pradesh’s 60 assembly seats took place concurrently with the first round of the Lok Sabha elections. In Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP secured 41 seats in the 2019 Assembly elections. The Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) scored one, the Congress party scored four, the National People’s Party (NPP) five, and the Janata Dal (United) seven. In the Assembly polls, two independents also prevailed. Every Congress MLA, with the exception of former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, joined the BJP.
SKM Set for Another Resounding Victory
In contrast, the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), which is now in power and with 29 seats, is headed for another resounding triumph. On one seat, the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) is in the lead. On April 19, Sikkim held simultaneous polling for 32 assembly seats in the first phase of the just concluded Lok Sabha elections. The SKM won 17 seats while the SDF won 15 seats in the 2019 Assembly elections. According to the exit polls, the SKM is expected to regain control in the state.
