Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday slammed RJD President Lalu Yadav amid discussions of break-up of the alliance between RJD and Congress in Bihar and rising tussle between the two parties in view of the by-elections.
Sources said that the talks between the two leaders lasted for about 10 minutes. Sonia Gandhi’s call came after the Congress Working Committee meeting. In this regard, it is considered very important.
Two days ago, while going from New Delhi to Patna, Lalu Yadav had bluntly said about the alliance with the Congress in the by-election that “Given the seat to the Congress to confiscate the bail”. Apart from this, Lalu Yadav had also attacked the Bihar Congress in-charge Bhakta Charan Das.

After this, the attacks on Lalu Yadav from the side of Congress leaders intensified. Former Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar also made a scathing remark on Lalu Yadav. The friendship between the Congress and the RJD goes back decades and the two parties have been trustworthy to each other, but relations have soured in recent times. The phone conversation between the top leaders of both the parties is being seen as an attempt to remove this tension.
Bye-elections are to be held on October 30 for two assembly seats (Tarapur and Kusheshwarsthan) in the state. In this by-election, both Congress and RJD have fielded candidates against each other. The Bihar Congress in-charge, while announcing the breakdown of the alliance, has also announced to field candidates on all 40 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
