Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi sacked jailed minister V. Senthil Balaji from the Council of Ministers on Thursday (June 29). The Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan issued a statement saying that Minister V Senthil Balaji is facing serious criminal proceedings in several cases of corruption, including money laundering and money laundering. In these circumstances, the Governor has dismissed him from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect.
On this matter, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that the Governor has no right to dismiss any minister from the cabinet, we will face the issue legally. And the Raj Bhavan statement said that Thiru V Senthil Balaji is abusing his position as a minister, influencing the investigation and obstructing the due process of law and justice. Some more criminal cases against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code are being investigated by the state police.
What else did the Tamil Nadu Raj Bhavan say?
Significantly, the Enforcement Directorate had arrested Senthil Balaji on June 14 under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Later, he was admitted to the government hospital after complaining of uneasiness and chest pain during the investigation. The court ordered him to be sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
In an official statement, the Raj Bhavan said Mr Balaji “is facing serious criminal proceedings in a number of cases of corruption, including taking cash for jobs and money laundering.”
“Under these circumstances, the Governor has dismissed Senthil Balaji from the Council of Ministers with immediate effect,” it said.
The Tamil Nadu government plans to challenge the move in the Supreme Court, sources said.
Judicial custody extended till July 12
Thereafter, Senthil Balaji was admitted to Kaveri Hospital, where he underwent bypass surgery. A Chennai court on Wednesday extended Senthil Balaji’s judicial custody till July 12. The minister appeared before the court through video conference from the hospital.
