BRS’s Bid for Continuity
A third term in office is being sought by the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on the basis of the party’s accomplishments and pledges made during the previous ten years. The state’s first government would be formed with support from the Congress, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has pledged to put an end to the “misrule and corruption” of the BRS.
Single-Phase Showdown
Voting in all 119 assembly constituencies of Telangana began on Thursday under strict security protocols, marking the start of the state’s single-phase elections. In 106 constituencies, voting would continue until 5 p.m., while in the 13 seats impacted by Left Wing Extremism (LWE), it would end at 4 p.m. In the state, there are 3.26 crore eligible voters, comprising 1,63,13,268 male and 1,63,02,261 female electors. KCR’s Dual Challenge
Chief Minister KCR is running for two seats: Kamareddy and Gajwel, where he was first elected. In Gajewal, he is competing against BJP leader Etela Rajender; in Kamareddy, he is facing Congress state unit chief Revanth Reddy. In addition to challenging KCR, Etela and Revanth Reddy are running from two seats: Reddy from Kodangal, the best candidate for the Congress, and the BJP leader from Huzurabad.
Political Powerhouses Unleashed
Prominent figures from every political party, such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, BJP chief JP Nadda, Mallikurjan Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KCR, KT Rama Rao, K Kavitha, and AIMIM Asaduddin Owaisi from the Congress, conducted vigorous campaigns in the state. 88 of the 119 seats were won by BRS (formerly Telangana Rashtra Samithi) in 2018, and the party received 47.4% of the vote.
