Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde attacked each other. After the change of power in Maharashtra in June, both the factions of Shiv Sena demonstrated strength at the Dussehra rally. At the Dussehra rally in Shivaji Park, where Uddhav Thackeray called Shinde and his supporters treacherous about joining hands with the BJP for power, CM Shinde said that despite the mandate given to the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in 2019, the NCP-Congress will join hands. By forming the government, Thackeray has betrayed the people.
While Uddhav Thackeray gave a speech of about 43 minutes long, Shinde’s speech at BKC lasted for about one and a half hours. Shiv Sena has been organizing Dussehra rally in Shivaji Park since 1966.
Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday said their reputation as “traitors” will never go away.
“The stamp of traitor (on the Shinde faction) will never go away. As time changes, the face of Ravan also changes. Today, it is the traitors (who are Ravan),” he said at the well-attended gathering.
“But he conspired against me thinking I will never stand up on my feet again,” Thackeray alleged.
“If you feel I should not remain the Sena president, I will quit. There is a limit to the lust for power. After the act of treachery, he (Shinde) now wants the party, its symbol and also wants to be called party president,” Thackeray said.
CM Shinde said, we did not commit treason, but it was mutiny. We are not traitors but soldiers of Balasaheb. You have sold the values of Balasaheb. Who is the real traitor who betrayed Hindutva in the greed of power.
Defending his rebellion against the Thackeray leadership in June, the chief minister said, “We took this step to save Shiv Sena, preserve the values of Balasaheb, Hindutva and betterment of Maharashtra.” We did this in front of everyone.
Hitting out at his political rival, Shinde said, “Do you (Uddhav Thackeray) have the right to continue in the post (Shiv Sena chief) for compromising on the values of Bal Thackeray?”
He said the huge crowd at his Dussehra rally is enough to show who is the true heir to Bal Thackeray’s legacy. Shinde said that as chief minister he could have interfered in booking Shivaji Park for his faction’s Dussehra rally, but he did not do so to maintain law and order.
Uddhav Thackeray launched a scathing attack on Shinde and his supporters, saying, the stigma of the betrayer will never go away. As time changes, Ravana’s face also changes. Today, they are treacherous (in the form of Ravana). When I was unwell and had a surgery as the Chief Minister, I had given him (Shinde) the responsibility as a senior minister.
Thackeray alleged, but he conspired against me thinking that I (probably) would never be able to stand on my feet again. Today’s Ravana is known not because of having more heads but because of kiosks (money). Saying this, he also alleged misappropriation of funds to topple the MVA government.
Shinde will not get votes in my father’s name: Thackeray
Thackeray further said, “If you think that I should not continue as Shiv Sena president, then I will resign, but there is a limit to being greedy for power.”
After betraying him, he (Shinde) now also wants the party’s election symbol and also wants to be called the party president. Uddhav Thackeray said that Shinde now wants to follow the legacy of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray, as he will not get votes in his father’s name.
Thackeray said, “I swear by my parents that it was decided that BJP and Shiv Sena will share the chief minister’s post for two-and-a-half years. He said Shinde was among the first to take oath as ministers in the MVA government along with Congress and NCP leaders and he had no problem then. Thackeray also said that he does not need to take lessons on Hindutva from BJP.
