TMC panchayat poll: On Saturday, some unknown goons attacked and killed a Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate for the impending panchayat elections in West Bengal’s Malda district. The deceased’s family claims that local Congress representatives killed him.
In the Malda district’s Kaliachak, the incident took place. A 48-year-old suspect, Abdul Mannan, was held after an initial inquiry, and more research into the case is now being done, according to Malda police.
Mustafa Sheikh, the dead, was returning home when he was attacked by the criminals. When he was carried to a nearby hospital, he was pronounced brought dead.
Shabina Yasmin, a TMC MLA who had visited the area, claimed that Sheikh’s wife was a Sujapur panchayat pradhan and that those who attacked him were former TMC employees who switched to the Congress after being refused tickets for the panchayat elections.
“We are looking into the case. The body was sent for post-mortem examination,” a police official told news agency PTI.
Congress rejects the claims made by TMC
The charges were refuted by the district Congress leadership.
“The allegation against us is baseless. The killing is due to infighting within the TMC. It has nothing to do with us,” a Congress leader told news agency PTI.
