Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Singh Thakur has become a Captain in the Territorial Army. He was earlier serving as lieutenant. Anurag Thakur has become the first MP in the country, who has become Captain as a regular commissioned officer in the army as an MP. On receiving the news of becoming a captain, there has been an influx of those who congratulate him. BJP workers said that this achievement is going to increase the respect of Hamirpur and the people of the state.
He has become the first serving MP and Minister who has received a Captain’s degree in the Territorial Army after getting promotion. Even before Anurag Thakur, MP from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh, celebrities from politics, sports and other fields have been given honorary degrees in the army.
Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni have also been awarded honorary degrees by the Army. Honorary rank of lieutenant colonel has been given in the Territorial Army unit of MS Dhoni Parachute Regiment (106 Para TA Battalion), former captain of the Indian cricket team. In the year 2011, he was given this honor. Along with him, Indian shooters Abhinav Bindra and Deepak Rao, who won the first Olympic gold medal for India, were also awarded honorary degrees.
He said that this is the third generation of my family, serving in the armed forces. It is an honor to be part of both the Army and Parliament. I come from a constituency and state, where people from every third house serve in the military. The first military officer to be awarded the Paramveer Chakra was only from Himachal Pradesh. He said that I was commissioned as a lieutenant in July 2016 as a regular officer in the Territorial Army. Today I am honored to share that I have been promoted to the rank of Captain. I reaffirm my commitment to serve people and call for duty to Mother India. The 46-year-old was inducted into the Territorial Army as a lieutenant in July 2016
