Western media has once again tried to surround India for buying oil from Russia, but India has also given a befitting reply with facts. In fact, CNN anchor Becky Anderson questioned Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri about the purchase of oil from Russia. Anderson asked that if the western countries tighten their restrictions on buying oil from Russia, then what is the option for India? On this, the Union Minister said that our government has other options. The way you guys are looking at it, our thinking is not the same. We will not feel any pressure. Modi government does not come under any pressure.
Anderson questioned whether India is having any ‘remorse’ after buying such a huge quantity of oil from Russia. To this the Union Minister said, ‘No, there is no moral conflict. One can make one’s own ideological view on buying oil from X and Y, but we buy oil from where it is available. I do not buy oil, oil companies do this work.
To a question whether India is making profit by buying oil from Russia at a lower price, Puri said, “I need to correct your point of view.” Our oil purchase from Russia is not 2 per cent but 0.2 per cent. Not only this, as much oil as we buy from Russia in three months, European countries buy in one day. So this thing needs to be remembered very clearly while talking about buying oil.
On the question of the anchor that if the countries of the West tighten their restrictions on buying oil from Russia, then what is India’s backup plan? On this question of the American journalist, Puri said, ‘We already have backup plans. We are not seeing things the way you are seeing. We are having good talks with America and Europe. We are not feeling any pressure. Modi government does not feel any pressure. We are the fifth largest economy in the world. We are the only country that is bringing about change. When oil prices rise, there are consequences.’
