In the Chambal-Gwalior region of Madhya Pradesh, raging floods have taken 24 lives as of Sunday. Thousands of people have been evacuated as the state continues to be wracked by rain. Around 1,250 villages are still reeling in the aftermath of the Madhya Pradesh floods, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar visited Sheopur on Saturday and faced an angry mob.
Sheopur district collector Rakesh Srivastava and Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay have been transferred until further instructions, a day after people flung mud at Tomar’s motorcade when he toured the flood-affected city.
The reason for their transfer has not been revealed yet.
People jeered at Tomar as he went to Karatia Bazaar in the city to meet flood victims, and he was overheard remarking that he had arrived too late.
His escort followed him as he got out of his car and consoled some people, including weeping women. According to eyewitnesses, people flung mud and small dry sticks at the vehicles.
Witnesses stated many complained to Tomar that they were not informed about the floods in a timely manner and that this was due to the district administration’s negligence.

Sheopur Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhaya said people complained to the minister that relief reached them late. But no vehicle in his motorcade was damaged, the SP added.
However, after facing the angry mob, Tomar said, “Regions like Gwalior Chambal are affected due to floods. I’ve met people authorities. We’re trying out best to help them by providing foodclean water first. I want to tell the people that govt, state govt BJP are standing with them.”
