UP Election 2022: BJP releases list of 91 candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday released a list of 91 candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, giving tickets to 13 ministers and repeating its sitting legislator in Ayodhya.

While Minister Siddharth Nath Singh will contest from Allahabad West seat, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s media advisor Shalabh Mani Tripathi got a ticket from Deora.

The BJP had released a name of 107 candidates in its first list, two more candidates in the second list, 85 candidates in its third list, and eight candidates in the fourth list. With the announcement of 91 names today, the BJP has released a total of 293 candidates out of the total 403 seats.

Earlier, speculations were doing rounds that Adityanath may be contesting from Ayodhya but the BJP decided to field him from Gorakhpur Urban Assembly constituency.

In the previous Assembly elections held in 2017, the BJP had pulled off a stunning win, bagging 312 of 403 Legislative Assembly seats. The Samajwadi Party had secured 47 seats, 177 less than its 2012 tally, and the Congress won just seven. The BSP had secured 19 seats, 61 less than the total number of seats it had won in 2012 polls.

As per the schedule, the seven-phased polls in UP will take place on February 10, 14, 20, 23, 27, March 3 and 7. Besides Uttar Pradesh, polling will also take place in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur to elect new governments in the respective states.
