Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee is leading by over 2,700 seats, leaving behind BJP leader and former aide Suvendu Adhikari according to updates, after 11 rounds of vote counting.
Nandigram in East Midnapore district, about 125 km from Kolkata, was known as a stronghold of the communists and from where a CPI candidate was mostly returned except in the 1996 and 2011 Assembly poll.
Status of other constituency:
••TMC candidate in Sujapur, Malda (considered a Congress fortress), Md Abdul Gani secures victory.
•TMC candidate in Uluberia Purba, Howrah, Bidesh Basu (footballer) secures victory, TMC holds on to this seat.
•Siliguri is an Assembly constituency in the Darjeeling district, in the North Bengal region of West Bengal. The Siliguri constituency went to polls on April 17, 2021. The assembly seat is reserved for the General category. The information coming in from the respective counting centres is that BJP’s Sankar Ghosh has secured a victory against TMC’s Dr Omprakash Mishra.
•Tollygunge assembly constituency of West Bengal has witnessed a high-stake battle this time. TMC heavyweight and PWD Minister Aroop Biswas is leading from the seat against BJP candidate and Union Minister Babul Supriyo. According to reports, Biswas is leading by more than 29,000 votes.
Counting of votes for the 294-seat is underway. Early trends emerging in results to the five state Assembly elections on Sunday showed that incumbent Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) might end up convincingly winning in West Bengal
