Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee will take oath as West Bengal Chief Minister for the third consecutive term on Wednesday, May 5. She was unanimously elected as the leader of the TMC Legislative Council at a party meet in Kolkata on Monday.
Banerjee is scheduled to meet West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to stake claim to form the government, as announced by Dhankhar on Sunday as votes were counted for assembly elections in four states, including West Bengal, and the Union territory of Puducherry.
Furthermore, Mamata claimed that the Returning Officer of Nandigram disclosed that recounting order could have led to his life risk.
Requesting her supporters to maintain peace amid reports of violence, the Trinamool Supremo accused the BJP of harassing her and her party even after the results were declared.
She also stated that this was the first time the Prime Minister did not call her on winning the Bengal assembly election.
As per the latest data available on the Election Commission of India website, the TMC has won 211 of the total 292 seats that went to polls in West Bengal over 8 phases. The party is also leading on 2 seats.
The BJP has won 77 seats while the Rashtriya Secular Majlis Party and Independents have won one seat each.
Elections were not held in two constituencies after candidates succumbed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
