While the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has supported the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the party is now raising concerns with the BJP over its implementation, which will not only affect Hindus but also Muslims, according to news agency ANI. The BJP and the unified Shiv Sena were on the same page about a number of crucial ideological issues, including the UCC, up until 2019, when they parted.
Uddhav while talking to media said: “We support Uniform Civil Code, but those who are bringing it should not think that it will only cause problems for Muslims, but it will also cause problems for Hindus and many questions will arise.”
Then, Uddhav questioned the BJP-led Centre’s contribution to reducing cow slaughter in the nation.
“Ban cow slaughter from Kashmir to Kanyakumari as there is no ban on cow slaughter. Former Goa CM Manohar Parrikar himself used to say that if there is a shortage of cows in the state, we will import them,” he stated.
These Uddhav Sena statements come at a time when the BJP is going all out to attack the Uddhav Sena in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and Maharashtra Assembly elections, particularly on the basis of its philosophy.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, a well-known Muslim organisation, claimed on Monday that the Uniform Civil Code breaches the constitutional right to freedom of religion. The group asserted that, as opposed to protesting in the streets, it will oppose the bill by using all legal means at its disposal.
