Assembly Election 2023 Result: According to sources this morning, Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge has demanded that the next gathering of the opposition alliance in India take place in Delhi on Wednesday. The announcement was made while the party was leading the vote-counting process for two Assembly elections. According to early indications, the party is expected to win Telangana, where its BRS has ruled since 2014, and retain Chhattisgarh. This is a surprising development.
Rajasthan’s Electoral Tradition
The Congress is expected to lose the contest for the other two seats to the national rival BJP in Rajasthan, a state that has consistently voted out governments for the previous thirty years. In the meantime, it is anticipated that the BJP, which has controlled Madhya Pradesh since 2003, will keep the state. The next meeting of INDIA is scheduled in the midst of discussions about internal divisions and speculation about the bloc’s future. These came to light this month when Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a founding member of the United Progressive Party (Janata Dal), accused the Congress of not having prepared enough for the general election of the following year.
Pushing Congress Forward Amidst Lack of Progress
“We have been speaking to them… pushing them forward in INDIA alliance. But, of late, there has not been much progress on that front. The Congress seems to be more interested in the five assembly polls. We agreed to assign Congress the leading role. But it appears they will call the next meeting only after they are through with the state elections,” he had said. The Congress was to determine the next dates following the conclusion of the INDIA group’s most recent meeting, which took place in Mumbai from August 31 to September 1. Talk about it possibly being in Delhi circulated, but as of yet there has been no update. Though that was abandoned, there was also talk that it might be in Madhya Pradesh.
INDIA Alliance Vows Unity in State Elections and 2024 Lok Sabha Polls
Following the meeting in Mumbai, India announced its intention to run “together as far as possible” in both this month’s state elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha election. But the resolution’s wording drew criticism and questions, chief among which was how united the opposition was in its attempt to stop Prime Minister Narendra Modi from seeking an unprecedented third term, and to what extent India was to respond.
Sparks Dispute Over Seat-Sharing in Madhya Pradesh
Notably, Nitish Kumar’s remark followed a dispute over seat-sharing in Madhya Pradesh between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party, another member of INDIA. Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, said a gentleman’s agreement was broken. “If I knew, wouldn’t have spoken to Congress.” Later, Yadav played down the altercation, telling NDTV that he still belongs in India.
