Women’s Reservation Bill Takes Center Stage on Day 2 of Special Parliament Session, Maneka Gandhi’s Call for Empathy and Equality

Parliament Special Session: Today, September 19, 2023, is Day 2 of the Special Parliament Session; it is a historic day since starting from this point, the MPs will be sitting in the new Parliament House. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all other lawmakers will pose for a group photo outside the old Parliament House before the session actually starts at the new one.

Anticipation Builds as Women’s Reservation Bill Set for Introduction in Lok Sabha

The Law Minister, Arjun Ram Meghwal, is anticipated to introduce the Women’s Reservation Bill today in the Lok Sabha. PM Modi spoke about the history of the Old Parliament House and the famous events that it has witnessed over the past 75 years on the opening day of the Session. The Lok Sabha will convene at 1:15 PM on the second day, and the Rajya Sabha will convene at 2:15 PM. The Women’s Reservation Bill was also approved on Monday evening during a special Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Modi. It will likely be introduced in the new Parliament on Wednesday, September 20, 2023.

Maneka Gandhi, the senior-most member of the Lok Sabha, is speaking before the chamber. The oldest sitting member of the Lok Sabha and a member of the BJP, Maneka Gandhi, said this while speaking at the Central Hall prior to the House proceedings moving to the New Parliament building: “PM Modi’s leadership has undertaken to repair the deep-rooted asymmetry and give equal share to India’s women.” She continued by expressing her optimism that “Bharat’s evolution” will be reflected in the “great edifice of the new building”. She urged kindness and empathy in her final words, especially among young women.
