A recent incident of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader’s aide urinating on the face of a tribal man sent shockwaves across the country, questioning the status of lower caste in India. After the video went wildly viral on the web, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Chouhan promised stringent action against the man who peed on the tribal. He also met the tribal laborer who was urinated on and referred to him as ‘Sudama,” the beloved friend of Lord Krishna.
Shivraj Chouhan calls the tribal ‘Sudama’
A video has gone viral on social media which shows Shivraj Chouhan sitting right next to victim Dashmat Rawat and saying, “This incident has deeply saddened me. Because you are like Sudama to me.”
Chouhan also ate breakfast with him and put a tilak on his forehead as he welcomed him with a garland. The Madhya Pradesh CM also discussed scores of issues with him on the occasion. He made sure to keep a check if various issues are reaching him.
Man urinating on labour sparks tow
The man who urinated on the labour has been identified as Pravesh Shukla. The incident is from the Sidhi District of Madhya Pradesh. Pravesh was arrested on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. A video of the incident has been making rounds on the internet, triggering a countrywide uproar.
The incident is expected to affect BJP’s situation in the upcoming assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh. The saffron party had finished behind the Congress in the last polls. Of the 47 reserved segments, the BJP had only marked victory in 15, while the Congress secured 31. It is noteworthy that the tribal voters influence the outcome in over 30 constituencies.
