Approval has been given to extend the deadline of the scheme with free ration from the government. The cabinet has approved the proposal to extend the deadline of Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. After the approval, now the free ration available under this scheme will be available till December, that is, people who are weak on the economic front will now get free ration till December. This scheme was started during the Corona period in March 2020 and now this scheme will continue till the end of this year till December. However, after this decision, there will be an additional burden of 40 thousand crore rupees on the government.
The Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has got an extension for another 3 months from the cabinet meeting. Now this scheme will continue till December. In the coming 3 months, an additional expenditure of Rs 40000 crore will come on this scheme. Till now the government has spent Rs 3.8 lakh crore on this.
The deadline of the cabinet meeting Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana has been extended for the next 3 months. An additional expenditure of 40 thousand crore rupees will be incurred on this. Explain that due to the composition of wheat and rice, this additional expenditure on the government will increase.
What is Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana
Under this scheme, every single ration card holder family that is around about 80 crore people is given 5 kg free ration in addition to its prescribed quota. This means that every family gets double the ration. Through this scheme, the government has so far distributed 1,003 lakh metric tonnes of food grains.
In this year’s budget, no provision was made for the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) launched after Covid. Despite this, after the budget, on March 26, 2022, the government had announced to continue it for another 6 months. At that time the government had told that about Rs 80,000 crore would be spent on continuing this scheme for 6 more months.
In the financial year 2020-21 and financial year 2021-22, the government had spent a total of 2.6 lakh crores on this. In the current financial year, the government has announced to extend PMGKAY for the first 6 months and now in the cabinet meeting held on 28 September, it has been extended by 3 months. In this way, till now the total expenditure on this scheme will be Rs 3.8 lakh crore.
