Amid surge in novel coronavirus cases in the state, Maharashtra government said that it is mulling to impose restrictions “similar to a lockdown” in order to curb the virus spread.
The announcement comes after Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray held a high-level meeting with the authorities of the state.
While meeting with senior health officials & COVID task force, Uddhav instructed them to prepare for restrictions similar to lockdown if people continue to violate COVID-related rules, stated an official release.
During the meeting, the COVID task force also expressed concerns over an increased death rate. Beds and other health facilities are also becoming inadequate due to the rapid increase in cases in the state.
CM also instructed the COVID task force to ensure an adequate supply of oxygen focus on institutional quarantine, instead of home quarantine and increase ICUs and ventilators, as mortality rates can go up, according to News 18.
The CM also suggested to enrol private doctors for medical services and give higher priority to old and comorbid patients. He also said that people w with comorbidities must be allowed to work from home.
A night curfew has been imposed in the state from today onwards in view of the unabated rise in COVID-19 cases.
The Chief Minister had earlier said that he was not in the favour of lockdown but warned of stricter restrictions if people did not observe COVID-19 safety protocol.

Nagpur on Sunday recorded 3970 new cases of Covid-19, taking its total number of cases to 2,18,820. 58 deaths were also recorded in the last 24 hours, the current death toll stands at 4,931, reported ANI.
In India, the number of daily cases hovered around 60,000, prompting authorities to rush for preventive measures. The tally has surpassed 11.9 million-mark while the death toll is at 161,240.
