President Draupadi Murmu: Today at the Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam, President Droupadi Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, took her first flight in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter jet, making history in the process. Group Captain Naveen Kumar, Commanding Officer of the 106 Squadron, was the pilot, and the President was observed entering the plane while wearing an anti-gravity suit. The plane cruised at roughly 800 kilometres per hour at an altitude of about two kilometres above ground. Before heading back to the Air Force Station, President Murmu spent around 30 minutes in the air, during which he was able to see the Brahmaputra and Tezpur valleys as well as the Himalayas.

The previous two presidents were both men; President Murmu is the first woman to do so. Former President Pratibha Patil flew a front-line fighter aircraft in 2009. As the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, the President’s flight in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter plane is part of her efforts to interact with the military and strengthen connections. In March of 2023, the President paid a visit to the INS Vikrant, an Indian-built aircraft, and spoke with the crew.
