Rajiv Gandhi, the youngest Prime Minister of India, was assassinated in a terrorist attack on 21 May 1991. But five years before that, the US intelligence agency CIA in a report had expressed the possibility of an attack on him, a conspiracy to murder. After this Rajiv also served as the Prime Minister till 1989. Rajiv Gandhi, who became the Prime Minister at the age of 40, was the youngest Prime Minister of India and perhaps one of the youngest politicians in the world who led the government.
This incident of 1991 shook the whole country. Angered by the sending of peace forces by LTTE militants to Sri Lanka, Tamil rebels carried out a suicide attack on Rajiv Gandhi in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
