Efforts have intensified to give concrete roof to about 1100 Rohingyas muslims living in Delhi by taking them out of tents. Soon they will get EWS flats providing all the basic services along with the protection of Delhi Police.
This has also been confirmed by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri wrote in his tweet, “India has always welcomed those who have sought asylum in the country. In a historic decision, all Rohingya refugees will be shifted to EWS flats in Bakkarwala area of Delhi. There they will be provided with basic facilities, UNHCR ID and 24-hour Delhi Police protection.”
Meeting was held with Delhi government officials
This decision of the government has been taken after a high-level meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary of Delhi with the officials of the Delhi Government, Delhi Police and the Ministry of Home Affairs. This meeting was held in the last week of July. The Delhi government had said that after the fire at Madarpur Khadar where the Rohingyas lived, they spend Rs 7 lakh every month for the Rohingyas’ tents.
A senior official said, “These refugees (Rohingyas) will soon be shifted to the NDMC flat in Bakkarwala village on the outskirts of Delhi. There are total 250 flats belonging to EWS category which will be given to 1100 Rohingyas living in Madanpur Khadar Camp.”
In the meeting, instructions were given to the Delhi Police that they would be posted in the security of the premises. At the same time, the Social Welfare Department will provide these people with fan, three time food, landline phone, TV.
Similarly, the Delhi government has been asked to fulfill the basic requirements of these flats and handover it to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office so that they can shift the Rohigyas here.
These flats were isolation centers at the time of Covid
According to the information, during Covid, these flats were given by NDMC to the Delhi government to isolate the suspects of Covid infection there. However, now it has been decided to keep the Rohingyas here. It is being told that the Rohingyas who will be shifted here have a unique ID of UNHCR and every detail of them is also on record.
