The month of Sawan is very dear to Lord Shiva as well as to the devotees of Bholenath. Devotees leave early in the morning to perform the jalabhishek of Lord Shiva in Shiva temples. According to the belief, Lord Shiva is believed to be innocent and the desire of anyone who worships him with a true heart is fulfilled. Shiva has his in-laws at Kankhal in Haridwar and it is believed that performing jalabhishek at Daksheshwar Mahadev temple on Sawan Monday fulfills the desire of devotees. It is believed that in the month of Sawan, Lord Shiva resides in Kankhal and fulfills the desires of his worshippers.
Haridwar: The devotees are celebrating the second Monday of Sawan today amid the second wave of the coronavirus. The Monday of Sawan is considered very important for Shiva devotees. Throughout the month of Sawan, Lord Shiva lives in his in-laws house in Kankhal, Daksheshwar Prajapati Temple. At the same time, he governs the world from here.
Devotees of Bhole also thronged other Shiva temples including Daksheshwar Prajapati Mahadev in Haridwar today to perform jalabhishek. Kanwar yatra was banned due to corona this year. That is why kanwarias were not seen in the queue this time; only a crowd of locals was there.
Swami Visheshwar Puri, the chief priest of Daksheshwar Mahadev temple, says Daksha is the in-law of Lord Shiva. Ganga water is the most beloved of Lord Shiva and in the month of Shravan people offer Ganga water to Lord Shiva according to their faith. Bel, datura, flowers, fruits, giloy, etc., are also offered by Shiv bhakts.

What is the reason behind living in an in-laws house?
Priest Swami Visheshwar Puri says that Lord Shiva lives here in his in-laws house in Sawan. Lord Shiva had given a boon to his father-in-law and all the deities that he would reside in Kankhal to meet the shortage of Sati in the month in Sawan and would be known as King Daksha, so he is also known as Daksheshwar. Therefore, this place is of great importance in the month of Shravan.

The ban on entry of devotees into the Bhasma Aarti of Mahakal in Ujjain continues on the second Monday of Sawan too. Today’s timing for baba’s darshan is from 5 am to 1 pm and from 7 pm to 9 pm through pre-booking. At 2:30 a.m. this morning, the mahakal doors were opened and the priests performed abhishek from milk, curd, honey,panchamrit and ghee .
Devotees also took a dip in the Holy Ganga on the second Monday of Sawan in Varanasi. Devotees queued up at kashi vishwanath temple and worshipped Bholenath.
