On Monday, a police vehicle drove into a couple of friends who were crossing the road. One of the two women died instantly while another is struggling with her injuries. The incident took place near Dhanowali on the Jalandhar-Phagwara highway where the families of farmers are protesting for a year now. The protest is still continued as the farmers are demanding to withdraw three farm laws passed by the parliament last year itself.
Later on the site, ACP Balwinder Iqbal Singh Kahlo reached on the incident site, who confronted to the deceased family that the CCTV footage has been collected as to start the investigation in the matter. Deceased Navjot Kaur was crossing the road with her friend when a police vehicle came rushing towards them. Kaur was a resident of Dhanowali district where she used to work in a car showroom. The incident has created uncertainity among the protesters. The police is trying to calm the protestors who are now more agitated then ever.
Early on this month, on October 3rd, in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh, similar incident occured led to the death of 8 people in total while some were mob lynched. A Journalist, farmers and some BJP leaders were included among the ones died. A car rushed over a few farmers which were struggling to cross the path at the Lakhimpur border. Union minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish, who were allegedly in the car that caused the massacre. Ashish denied his presence at the site while some video from the incident surfaced claiming his presence. Later, Uttar Pradesh Police arrested Ashish Mishra following a thorough investigation.
