Supreme Court has passed orders that Delhi Mayor elections will be held on February 2022.
Delhi Mayor Election to take place on Feb 22
It has been an action pack week as far as developments regarding Delhi Mayor elections are concerned. Earlier Supreme Court had announced that nominated members cannot vote in Delhi Mayor elections. A day after this landmark order Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had sent a proposal to Delhi LG VK Saxena to hold Mayor elections on February 22.
The elections for Delhi Mayor has been stalled thrice due to AAP-BJP’s acrimonious fight. On January 6, when the MCD house was convened for the first time, there was a bedlam , sloganeering in the MCD House. There was also heated exchanges between AAP and BJP MCD members.

Even in second Municipal House meeting held on January 24, there was sloganeering and house disruptions by councilors during oath taking ceremony. The MCD House was adjourned till next date by the presiding officer.
The third session was also adjourned by the preterm presiding officer and BJP councilor Satya Sharma.
Delhi Municipal Corporation Act says that nominated members , or aldermen cannot vote in MCD house meetings.
In the MCD elections held on December 4, 2022 , the AAP had emerged as the clear winner by bagging 134 wards and ended BJP’s 15 year old rule in the civic body.
The BJP has won 104 wards to finish second, while the Congress won nine seats in the 250 member municipal house
