Three old car nameplates: Over the years, the Indian market has experienced the ups and downs of numerous cars. The reasons have ranged from the replacement adopting a whole new name to models being discontinued owing to low sales or shifting restrictions. Certain names, meanwhile, have endured the test of time and are still available today.
Let’s look at the nameplates that have been in operation the longest.
Three old car nameplates
Maruti Suzuki Wagon R – Launched in 1999
The hatchback from Maruti was initially introduced in India in 1999 and is still available. The hatchback’s ability to maximise interior space within a constrained space is one of Wagon R’s design’s strong points. Since its first release, the vehicle has seen numerous iterations, with the most recent hatchback being the most powerful to date.
Mahindra Bolero- launched in 2000
In 2000, the durable Bolero made its way to India, where it is still for sale today. The tough body-on-frame SUV has undergone multiple upgrades over the past year, including new or updated engines and a reduction in size to under 4 metres, but it continues to be one of Mahindra’s top-selling SUVs in the nation. The Bolero has served the passenger car market well, and it has inspired a number of pick-ups aimed at the business and lifestyle markets.
Maruti Suzuki Alto- Launched in 2000
Although both vehicles were sold side by side for a few years before the famous Maruti 800 was finally discontinued, it was hoped that the Alto would succeed it. The Alto continued to rule the Indian market during the subsequent years, selling more than 40 lakh units and ranking among the most popular automobiles on the market.
